If you want to run WP CMS on your website or blog and use themes and plugins to customize it easily, check out the best server and host requirements for good WordPress installation, usage & performance.
Note: This article is based on the official WordPress.org site
To run WordPress, we recommend your host support:
- PHP version 7.4 or greater
- MySQL version 5.7 or greater OR MariaDB version 10.3 or greater
- HTTPS support
That’s really it. We recommend Apache or Nginx as the most robust and featureful server for running WordPress, but any server that supports PHP and MySQL will do. That said, we can’t test every possible environment, and each of the hosts on our hosting page supports the above and more with no problems.
Note: If you are in a legacy environment with only older PHP or MySQL versions, WordPress also works with PHP 7+ and MySQL 5.0+, but these versions have reached the official End Of Life and, as such, may expose your site to security vulnerabilities. Follow this server requirements for good WordPress usage.

I’m interested in running the open-source WordPress <https://wordpress.org/> web software and I was wondering if my account supported the following:
- PHP 7.4 or greater
- MySQL 5.7 or greater OR MariaDB 10.3 or greater
- Nginx or Apache with mod_rewrite module
- HTTPS support
Thanks!
Not required, but recommended for better security
Hosting is more secure when PHP applications, like WordPress, are run using your account’s username instead of the server’s default shared username. Ask your potential host what steps they take to ensure the security of your account.
Why do we support older versions? Host Requirements For WordPress Installation
We strongly recommend the latest versions of PHP and MySQL. Still, we understand that this isn’t right for everyone, and that sometimes hosts can be slow or hesitant to upgrade their customers since upgrades to PHP and MySQL have historically broken applications.
WordPress will always work on the latest versions of PHP and MySQL, which are often faster and more stable.
In the case, your WordPress site shows any PHP error line
We recommend you contact your host company support and ask for an update on PHP bases. While using some old PHP versions, your site did not load some important advanced code parts like some visual composer plugin elements, some slider plugin elements, Ultimate add-ons error messages on the front end, and some theme elements as well. (sometimes, it replies with a blank page).
Another advantage of upgrading your PHP version to a 7.4+ version is the site loading speed, it will be increased in something like 30%, so please, contact your host to fix it for you and prevent some error and future issues. This has no relation with your theme or plugins, however, it affects its codes.
