So, one of our users asked us how to add a link in WordPress. As a result, in this article, we’ll show you a guide on how to add a link to posts, pages, text widgets, and more in WordPress.

Why are links important?

Links are the bloodstream of the internet. They interconnect websites and Web pages to form a World Wide Web of information. Imagine visiting a webpage that has no links for you to click on. You would have no other option but to click on the back button of your browser.

Hyperlinked text, buttons, and other elements take you from one page to another or from one site to another. Links will tell visitors to your WordPress site where they can find more information about a topic.

When you use links effectively, those visitors spend more time on your site. They will discover more content, buy more products from your online store, and be more likely to subscribe to your email newsletter. Let’s look at how to add links in different areas of your WordPress site easily.

  1. Firstly, go to the web page you want to link to.
  2. Secondly, Copy the URL. It should start with “HTTP://.”
  3. Write the text you want to be a hyperlink. It is good to be descriptive and avoid the phrase “click here.”
  4. Highlight the text you want to turn into a hyperlink.
  5. Click the chain-link icon in Gutenberg, and it looks like this.
  6. Paste in the URL from Step 2.
  7. Finally, click the “enter” button.

It is recommended that you only use this option for links to third-party websites. That way, your users don’t leave your site while visiting it.

If you’re using the old classic editor instead of the block editor, adding links is very similar.

  1. Firstly, go to the web page you want to link to.
  2. Copy the URL. It should start with “HTTP://.”
  3. Write the text you want to be a hyperlink. It is good to be descriptive and avoid the phrase “click here.”
  4. Select the text.
  5. Click the make link button in WordPress. It looks like this
  6. Paste the URL from step one into the link field.
    It looks like this.
  7. Then click Insert.

Do you want to add links to your site’s navigation menu? WordPress has an intuitive menu editor that allows you to create and manage navigation menus on your WordPress site. Suppose you don’t have a navigation menu setup. In that case, you can create one by entering a menu name and adding, editing, or deleting links if you already have a navigation menu setup.

Adding Internal Links to Navigation Menus:

It’s easy to add links to your website content.

How to Add Links in WordPress Widgets

WordPress allows you to add widgets to non-content areas of your website, such as the sidebar and footer. Some of these widgets are automated and have few options. For example, the Latest Posts widget automatically links your recent posts.

However, if you want to add custom text with links in your sidebar, use the Paragraph widget.

  1. You must go to the Appearance.
  2. Widgets page and click the blue ‘+ Block Inserter’ icon in the top left corner.
  3. After that, drag the Paragraph widget to your sidebar or other widget area.
  4. You can enter your text and add a link just as you would add one to a post or page.
  5. Click the ‘Update’ button to store your new widget settings.

Finally, your link should turn blue like other links around the web. You can also use a WordPress Hotkey to insert the link. Preview and Publish: Before publishing your post/page, previewing it’s a good idea to ensure the link works as expected.

When satisfied, click the “Publish” or “Update” button to activate your changes. You have successfully added a link to your WordPress post or page. Visitors can now click the link and be redirected to your provided URL.
